Diana W. Guthrie, RN, PhD, C, ARNP, FAAN, CDE, BC-ADM, received an associate arts degree from Graceland College in Iowa; a bachelor of science in nursing and a master's of science in public health from the University of Missouri-Columbia; an education specialist in counseling and development at the Wichita State University; and a doctorate from Walden University, St. Paul, Minnesota. She is now Professor Emeritus, Department of Pediatrics, University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. Adjunct professor appointment is held with the School of Nursing at the Wichita State University. She has been involved in the field of diabetes since 1969 as a diabetes educator, consultant, diabetes nurse specialist, and diabetes nurse practitioner. She is certified in counseling, community health, stress management education, holistic nursing, healing touch, and as a diabetes educator and advanced diabetes nurse practitioner. She holds diplomate status in clinical biofeedback and is a fellow of the American Board of Medical Psychotherapy and the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists. Dr. Guthrie is a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. In Kansas, she is a also recognized as an advanced registered nurse practitioner and as a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist and licensed clinical professional counselor. Dr. Guthrie received the Outstanding Educator Award from the American Diabetes Association and the Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of Diabetes Educators.



Richard A. Guthrie, MD, FAAP, CDE, FACE, is a clinical professor of the Department of Pediatrics and Family Practice, University of Kansas-Wichita, medical director of the Robert L. Jackson Diabetes Associates, president of Great Plains Diabetes Research, Inc., and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Endocrinologists. He has been in the field of diabetes since 1966, and has served on various committees and chaired or been a member of the local and national board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. He is boarded in Pediatric Endocrinology and, because of the increasing number of non-pediatric patients referred to him, opened his practice to adults in 1979. He is one of the growing number of physicians who is certified as a diabetes educator.
